Glaciers help balance the climate and supply constant flows of fresh water to billions of people around the world. But in the mountains of the world, and in the polar regions, ancient glaciers and large ice sheets are dying melting faster than the weather can remake them. Melting ice will also cause the sea to rise, potentially flooding the coastal homes for 100 million people.
