In April of 2007, College of Alameda completed a $590,000 carpet renovation that replaced aging and mildewed carpet in the Library, Buildings F, G and D. The new carpet is manufactured by Bentley Prince Street, sister company to carpet and rug industry pioneer InterfaceFLOR.

Former COA President Cecilia Cervantes led a committee that selected carpets in the BPS Cool Carpet line. Cool Carpet is an energy offset program, which allows the District to permanently retire tons of GHG (greenhouse gases) by its use. In addition, BPS offers a reclamation program for the existing old carpet and repurposes it or recycles it. By BPS’s recycling program they are able to divert tons of waste from California’s landfills.
The District’s utilized its membership in the Educational & Institutional (E & I) Purchasing Cooperative to utilize enter into a non-bid turnkey installation contract with Strategic Flooring Services. The piggyback contract provides purchase of materials direct from Bentley Prince Street (BPS) at the contract Direct Purchase Price and provides installation services through Hoem & Associates, an independent flooring contractor located in South San Francisco, California.
Located in California, Bentley Prince Street (BPS) is one of the greenest carpet mills in the United States, adhering and surpassing California’s strict air quality and factory emission guidelines with regard to manufacturing and adhesives. All of the adhesives used by BPS are CRI Green Label Plus certified and qualify for 1 credit in the LEED certification system.
Hoem & Associates (H & A) will provided local installation within the District’s market area, order tracking and project management services on behalf of Strategic Flooring Services. H&A is ranked best StarNet dealer and are certified in the utilization of the Lift System technology and equipment, essential for the installation of all the Library carpeting for the least amount of disruption to the students and staff and in order to allow the Library the ability to remain open all days of the year.
